About the school:
Galway’s newest secondary school, Coláiste Muire Máthair, has been established through the amalgamation of Our Lady’s College and St. Mary’s College, Galway. This co-educational school brings together three of the city’s most respected educational traditions—the Mercy and Presentation Sisters through Our Lady’s College, and the Diocesan legacy of St. Mary’s College—into one vibrant and future-focused institution.Rooted in this rich heritage, the school offers a modern, inclusive, and values-driven educational environment where every student is supported to thrive.
Coláiste Muire Máthair is guided by the values of the CEIST and Diocesan Charters, which shape their vision and everyday interactions. Positive relationships are the foundation of everything they do. As students navigate their teenage years, they aim to support them with compassion, respect, and a deep sense of care.
At their core, they hold high expectations for their students and are deeply committed to supporting them—alongside their parents and guardians—as they strive to reach their full potential. The school is proud to have a team of passionate and experienced teachers and support staff who create an inclusive and nurturing learning environment while delivering excellence across a broad and dynamic curriculum.
Beyond the classroom, they offer an extensive range of extracurricular opportunities that promote participation, leadership, communication, fun, and personal growth. And when challenges arise, their dedicated support systems ensure that students always feel safe, heard, and encouraged.
They are also proud of their historic campus, which has undergone significant refurbishment in recent years. New specialist rooms and classrooms have been added, alongside major upgrades to fire safety and accessibility. Exciting plans are underway for further development, as they work toward accommodating up to 1,000 students in the near future.
Their mission is to help every student become the best version of themselves: confident, compassionate, respectful, and proud. We hope they leave us not only well-educated, but also well-prepared to lead fulfilling lives and to make meaningful contributions to their communities and to society as a whole.
